About Artillery Duel
Artillery Duel is a cozy-but-explosive take on the classic lob-a-shell tank battle, in the lineage of Scorched Earth, Pocket Tanks and Gunbound. Every match begins on a fresh, procedurally generated ridge of rolling hills, and that ground is fully destructible: each blast scoops a real crater out of the heightmap, so the battlefield reshapes itself shot by shot until someone is stranded in a pit or blown clean off. A shifting per-turn wind nudges your shell left or right, turning every shot into a quick mental ballistics puzzle. The whole thing is drawn and synthesized from scratch on an HTML5 canvas - hand-tuned explosion particles, flying terrain debris, screen shake, a glowing shell trail and floating damage numbers - so it feels punchy without a single downloaded asset. Choose your fight: a forgiving Easy CPU that aims roughly and misses often, a sharp Hard CPU that actually runs the trajectory math, or local two-player pass-and-play for couch rivalries. Your win/loss record against the computer is saved between sessions.
How to play Artillery Duel
On your turn, set two things: the ANGLE of your barrel (how high you aim) and the POWER of the shot (how hard you fling it). Watch the wind indicator in the center of the HUD - a right arrow pushes your shell further right, a left arrow pulls it back, and the number shows how strong the gust is. When you are happy with your aim, hit FIRE and watch the shell arc over the hills. Where it lands it explodes, blasting a crater into the ground and hurting any tank inside the blast radius (closer hits do more damage). Then it is the other gunner's turn, with a brand-new wind. Keep adjusting and firing back and forth - direct hits and near misses chip away at the enemy health bar. Drop your opponent to 0 HP to win the duel. You can also switch to the CLUSTER weapon, which bursts into several smaller bomblets for spread damage when a single shell keeps missing.

Mouse / touch: drag the slider tracks (or tap the up/down step buttons) to set Angle and Power, or simply drag directly on the battlefield from your tank to aim - distance sets power, direction sets angle. Tap WEAPON to switch shells, then tap FIRE. Keyboard: Left/Right arrows adjust angle, Up/Down arrows adjust power (hold Shift for bigger steps of 5), Space or Enter fires, Q switches weapon, M toggles mute. Any key or tap on the start/demo screen begins a fresh game.
Tips & tricks
- Wind is everything: aim slightly INTO the wind so the gust carries your shell onto the target instead of past it.
- Your last shot is free intel - if you overshot, drop the power a notch or two and fire from almost the same angle to walk the shell onto the enemy.
- Around 45 degrees gives you maximum range; raise the angle for a steeper, shorter lob that can drop behind hills the enemy is hiding under.
- Blasts carve craters, so use the terrain - dig the ground out from under the enemy tank and it can slide into a hole that is hard to escape.
- When a tank is tucked behind a ridge and direct shots keep clipping the hill, switch to the CLUSTER weapon - its spread of bomblets is far more forgiving of imperfect aim.
